This review is part of a round of reviews of baby carriers my wife wrote, including her takes on the BABYBJÖRN Baby Carrier Original - City Black (4 stars), the Ergo Baby Carrier Black with Camel Lining (5 stars), the Infantino Ecosash Baby Carrier, Bloomin Vines, 8-35 Pounds (3 stars), and the Boba Classic Baby Carrier, Glacier (4 stars). Here's her general intro:

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent carrier for the price, but probably not ideal past 20 lbs, September 27, 2010

This is a reasonable substitute for a more expensive and harder to find carrier that parents have been raving about for years. It lacks some of the convenient features of the crunchier version, like a zippered pouch, hood for sleeping babies, and the side/hip carry option, but it's a bit more stylish. This is advertised as being able to carry newborns to toddlers, but it definitely works best from around 4 months to 9 months. Once the little one is past about 20 pounds, it can be very uncomfortable to use any carrier for more than brief periods. Older babies and toddlers also tend to be more resistant to being snugly held in a carrier unless they're accustomed to doing so regularly. This front-to-back carrier distributes weight better than the popular front-only carriers, but is considerably more complicated to learn how to use and the multiple straps tend to dangle all over the place.

Hope this helps!

This is one of those products that I feel like is just a short way off from being excellent. It does so many things well that I almost feel bad giving it only three stars. I'll start with the good:

1) Very well made with high quality buckles, straps, padding, and nylon exterior.

2) Super comfortable for our son. He falls asleep in it almost immediately and stays that way for a long time.

3) Easy to load our son in and out of--the whole front can be lowered to get him in and out with ease.

4) Comes with a little 'burp guard' to keep things clean when baby is spitting up.

5) Very secure, and safe.

6) Better for newborns and little baby's pelvis than carriers with leg holes. This ones is very suitable for even a 1 week old baby.

The not so good:

1) The back straps do not adjust enough for my size. I am a 6' 2" 200lb dad. Not a giant by any stretch, but the carrier cannot be adjusted so that it sits...Read more
