I am a die-hard baby wearer, and this is by far my favorite carrier. I own or have owned nearly every type of carrier: pouch slings (like Hotslings, Peanut Shell, etc.), ring slings (Maya Wrap, Ellaroo), stretchy wraps (Moby), Mei Tais (Babyhawk, Ellaroo), and soft-structured carriers (Ergo, Beco, Angelpack, etc.). I have pretty much never met a carrier I didn't like. The Maya Wrap is, tied with the Ergo, my absolute favorite. While I sort of collect carriers, I could absolutely get by in any situation with a Maya and an Ergo.

One thing that is REALLY important to know if you are browsing for carriers is that baby wearing is extremely personal, and what works for one person may not work for another person at all (and vice versa). The Maya Wrap is a ring sling, which is basically a really long piece of fabric pleated at the shoulder, with a pair of large rings to make a buckle. There is a learning curve with ring slings (and most other carriers). Please understand...Read more

I have a maya wrap and absolutely love it! I ordered this wrap as a gift for a friend. She is about 5'2 and my medium wrap seemed like the tail would be too long for her, so I ordered a small. The size chart recommends a small for a slender 5'2 and under and a medium for 5'2 to 5'9. Apparently the difference between the small and the medium is pretty significant. She says that the zipper on the pocket is higher than her elbow. I was really surprised at the huge difference between the medium and the small. If you or the person you are buying for is right around 5'2, I would definitely go with the medium.

As a new mom, I have spent the last 2 months without a sling or wrap... thus not much got done around the house and something as simple as making a sandwich was nearly impossible because both my arms were always holding my son. After doing some research --- reading as well as talking to other moms --- I purchased this Maya wrap and it totally rocks!

The sizing seems fairly accurate. I am only 5'0" so I purchased the Small size, which is perfect. It is very comfortable, so long as I am not layered up in thick clothing. My son loves it also, as it is very secure --- he feels secure, and I have the peace of mind knowing that he's not going to fall or roll out. I'm still mastering the various ways to hold him in it, but so far so good. My son loves it regardless of the position, and has fallen asleep in it many times. (Note that babies are individuals though, and not all will like this.)

The padding is comfortable on my shoulder/back. My son is currently...Read more
